OCRText | Squad shows marked improvement al The Varsity Volleyball team ob- tained a seasonal average of .500. They competed against tough teams such as Riverside, Hanks, Bel Air and Eastwood. Throughout the season, the out- standing players were Linda Duran, Lisa McAfee and Maribel Garay. They were also returning letterman, and brought a sense of leadership to the group. Mr. Frank Perez, coach, said the group had improved a great deal since last year. He added that the only problem this season was the tough teams they had to play. 54 Volleyball a The most exciting games were Hanks, Parkland and Ysleta. To the girls, volleyball is a very com- petative sport which includes scraped knees and bruised elbows. During the games, Mr. Perez was not always yelling; he was plan- ning a strategy to help the girls overcome their opponents. Mr. Perez said the best thing about this season was that the girls were playing as a group, and they were playing very enthusiastically. Mr. Perez expects a more exciting sea- son next year. , ¥ (1) The team members are, back row, manager Diane Solis, Grace Acala, Mari- bel Garay, Cyria Rubio, Linda Duran, Elsa Osoria, Darlene Calderon, Lisa McAfee and Coach Frank Perez. The front row is Johanna Davila and Ester Gonzalez. (2) As teammates look on, Lisa McAfee tries to increase the Bulldog score. (3) Maribal Garay serves, hoping to score. (4) Cyria Rubio (16), Elsa Osoria (12), and Darlene Calderon (15) stretch before a home game. |
