(2) Poetry Interpreter Michael Graham recites at the Cornado Speech Tournament. The speech team, coached by Mr. Mario Maldonado, completed a suc- cessful year, attending 10 speech tournaments. To be accepted into the speech team, a student had to show a desire to compete in at least one UIL speaking event and successfully par- ticipate in at least two tournaments. The team won trophies and medals in debate, Spanish Reading and Readers Theatre. One goal of the team was to build a strong competi- tive membership for next year, and develop a junior high speech pro- gram. Toward that goal the first Bull- dog Invitational Speech tournament was hosted by Socorro High School with area schools participating. 114 This page sponsored by Mario Maldonado |
