OCRText | Shook inspires productivity This year the El Chato staff has chosen to dedicate the yearbook to Coach Joe Bob Shook. He is a model of move- ment for he has improved the football program’s standings 12 Dedication during his five years at Socorro. Going from a 2-A division to a 5-A is a big step to take. Coach Shook wants his team to give their very best, 110%, but he wants them to have fun do- ing it. This attitude is motivat- ing. According to some team members, Socorro has a more unified team. As a whole the coaching staff and players get along better. Coach Shook has instilled a different attitude among the team, an attitude that they can play against the teams in town. It is this kind of direction from the head football coach that makes a productive season. His dedication to his students is year-round. He not only works with players during foot- ball season, but also is con- cerned about their future. He helps to place them in colleges where they can play ball. He sends out letters, films and re- ferrals all over. Mr. Shook is not only a good coach, he is also an excellent biology teacher. He makes his classes challenging and gets along well with his students. Coach Shook is a graduate of U.T.E.P. and has been teaching at Socorro High School for five years. The last three years he has been head coach of the var- sity football team. We are proud to have such an outstanding coach and in- spiring teacher at Socorro. |
