OCRText | The cross country team opened it’s fast-paced season starting with a watermelon race Sept. 15. It was one anda half miles long. Frank Garcia won the watermelon and each runner-up got a piece. The team placed fourth at the district meet held Nov. 10, only five points from getting third place. Top runners were Frank Garcia, finishing 10th; Alex la Cruz, finishing 14th; and Peter 96 sports ~ teams pace through year Garcia, finishing 12th. They fin- ished right behind each other, setting their best times ever. The six schools that participat- ed were Socorro, Ysleta, Bel Air Riverside, Eastwood and Park- land. Coach Don Barbray said it was like a moral victory to the team, considering they were competing with bigger schools. The Junior Varsity placed fifth overall. Manny de la Cruz fin- ished 48th, Ramon Varela fin- ished 24st, and Juan Arras fin- ished 24th.
